Snoring & Apnea, from Dr. Wadsworth

Snoring, Apnea, OSA, CPAP , Inspire

Snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are more than just nighttime annoyances. They can disrupt your sleep, leave you feeling tired during the day, and even affect your overall health. The good news is that there are many effective treatments, and my team and I are here to help you find the one that works best for you.

For many people, the first step in treating OSA is continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or auto-titrating positive airway pressure (APAP). These machines deliver a gentle stream of air through a mask to keep your airway open while you sleep. They are considered the gold standard because of how well they improve sleep quality and reduce the risks linked to untreated OSA.

If you’re looking for an alternative to CPAP, oral appliance therapy may be a good fit. These small, custom-made devices reposition your jaw and tongue to prevent your airway from collapsing at night. They are easy to use, comfortable for many patients, and especially helpful if your airway blockage is mainly from the tongue falling back during sleep.

In some cases, surgery can also be the right option. Surgery on the nose can improve airflow by correcting structural issues. Surgery on the palate can help reduce tissue collapse in the back of the throat. A newer option, called hypoglossal nerve stimulation, gently activates the tongue muscles while you sleep to keep your airway open naturally. These treatments are especially helpful if other approaches aren’t enough on their own.

There are also certain medications approved for sleep apnea that may be used in specific situations, often alongside other therapies.

Because every patient is different, I believe in creating a treatment plan that is tailored to your needs, your lifestyle, and your goals. Whether it’s CPAP, an oral appliance, surgery, or a combination of therapies, my goal is always the same: to help you breathe easier, sleep better, and feel more energized during the day.

If you’re struggling with snoring or sleep apnea, I’d love to meet with you and talk through your options. Together, we can find the right path toward healthier, more restful sleep.
